I'm Nic, a web developer currently living in Glasgow, Scotland. I love games, football, movies and of course the 13 days of sun we get every year. I use my Internet Computing MSc from Abertay university for both my current job as an applications developer at Formedix and freelance web designer. If you'd like to enquire about a web/mobile project or would just like a chat don't be afraid to email!
In December of 2013 I joined an up and coming company named Formedix, being employed as a Transform Developer my main responsibilities centred around the creation and maintenance of a suite of plugins designed to modify our flagship product and allow exports to be created for a variety of target software.
As I was employed at the start of a vast company growth it didn't take long before I was no longer the 'new kid on the block' and the large amount of extra employees meant moving to our current office on Bath Street, Glasgow. With our new office came new responsibilities, I led up a few projects within the Transform team and got to work closely with companies such as Medidata and Oracle.
After a few years I decided to move on from the Transform team to join the Application Development team where I work on our new web based application.
Originally born in a small burgh in Fife, aptly named Newburgh. It was a rather uneventful place to stay and my friends and I kept ourselves sane with regular games of football, computer games and the towns frequent events such as the boat race and games day.
In 2008 I moved to Dundee to study Web Design and Development at Abertay University, moving from a small town to a large city was quite the drastic change but being around hundreds of other students in the exact same situation (plus freshers week) eased the transition.
After studying in Dundee for 5 years I was offered a position at Formedix which required a move down to Glasgow. After a few months with Formedix I realised I was working somewhere I wanted to stay for a very long while, with that thought in my head I made the decision to purchase my first flat and have been here ever since!
After completing high school I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to study, I knew I wanted to go to university and I had always had a passion for both computing and graphic design but I wasn't sure which I wanted to pursue. In the end I decided upon a combination of the two , so I studied Web Design and Development for 4 years at Abertay University and I haven't regretted the choice since. With modules ranging from website development to design and digital media I learned a variety of skills I still use today. Although I enjoyed those four years I still felt like I hadn't achieved what I need to from Abertay and so I stayed on to Study Internet Computing as a masters degree. This delved further into web based application design which is where I decided this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Alongside my studies I worked as an assistant lecturer for a variety of 2nd degree classes in the field of Web Standards which I had studied just 3 years before. For my MSc project I chose to focus on Web and Mobile application security but just a few weeks in I was offered a position at Formedix and ended up doing both for the remaining 2 months of my university career!
